Andy Ruiz Jr Vs. Luis Ortiz Booked For September
The awaited fight between Andy Ruiz Jr (34-2, 22 KOs) and Luis Ortiz (33-2, 28 KOs) has been pushed back.
The clash was originally supposed to happen on August 13, but it has since been moved to September 4. It will still take place in Los Angeles.
“My son is going to shut up the one who dared to call him a coward,” Ruiz Sr. previously told ESPN KNOCKOUT.
“Andy is very motivated, he is ready to show the world that he belongs to the elite of heavyweights and that he is not afraid of anyone,” he added.
Ruiz has been rumored to a few different opponents including a Triller event against Tyrone Sprong. But news later revealed that a deal had already been struck with Ortiz.
The American boxer is probably most known for his shocking win over Anthony Joshua for the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight straps in June 2019 with a technical knockout.
But his reign was short-lived, returning the belts to Joshua after a unanimous decision loss in their rematch six months later.
Ortiz got back into the winning column with a TKO win over Charles Martin in January and a knockout win against Alexander Flores in November 2020.
Before that, Ortiz went at it with Deontay Wilder for a second time, but lost in the seventh round by knockout.
Both Ruiz and Ortiz have top ten rankings in three of the four boxing sanctioning bodies.
