Andy Ruiz Likely To Mark Ring Return In March 2022 In Mexico

Andy Ruiz Jr is likely to return to the ring next March after undergoing a knee surgery that delayed the heavyweight’s plans of making a return, Fernando Beltrán of Zanfer Promotions has confirmed.

The 32-year-old was scheduled to fight in December until he developed knee issues.

He is coming off a big win over Chris Arreola in May this year, where he surpassed him on points despite being sent down to the canvas. According to Beltrán, Ruiz is most likely to box next year in Zócalo, Mexico City.

The promoter made the development public after having meetings with the boxer’s father and legal representative.

“We already started talks with Andy’s father, also with his lawyer, there is an interest and we will be looking at the possibility of having him make his return in the month of March in the Zócalo. We hope to make it happen and provide some good news to the fans,” Beltrán told ESPN Deportes.

In 2019, Ruiz became the first Mexican heavyweight champion when he stopped Anthony Joshua at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

But he went to lose the captured WBA, IBF, IBO, WBO world titles in the rematch held in the same year.

The Mexican star lost by a wide decision to Joshua in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
