Angel Garcia Banned from Press Conference
After Danny Garcia’s father Angel exploded in a racially-charged tirade at last week’s kickoff press conference for Garcia vs. Keith Thurman, Angel has been banned from participating in future pressers.
Promoter Lou DiBella was appalled at Garcia’s outburst, and said he make sure he doesn’t have the chance to repeat his mistakes.
After the press conference, during which Angel Garcia tossed racial slurs and anti-immigrant insults in Thurman’s direction, DiBella took to Twitter to express his vehement disapproval:
N-words, homophobic epithets, and anti-immigrant rhetoric have no place at a boxing press conference (or anywhere else).

DiBella then spoke to Al Haymon, who manages both Garcia and Thurman. They made an agreement that Angel Garcia will no longer be given the platform where another meltdown is possible.
"Angel Garcia won’t have the opportunity to do that again," DiBella said, per ESPN’s Dan Rafael. "He won’t have a microphone, nor should he have after what he did."
Exactly what privileges Angel Garcia will be allowed to have after a handful of similarly inappropriate outbursts remains up in the air. The New York Athletic Commission has come out and disowned his actions, but as he is not licensed by the commission there is no punishment that they can hand down to him:
"The New York State Athletic Commission does not in any way condone or excuse Mr. Garcia’s words and actions," the commission said in a statement given to ESPN.com. "Angel Garcia is not a licensee of the Commission and, therefore, is not subject to its jurisdiction at this time. In the event Mr. Garcia pursues a license with the State Athletic Commission, this incident and all relevant information will be reviewed and this matter would be revisited in that context."
