Another Loma Title, Decisions Pedraza
It wasn’t another knockout, but it was another fight and another title win for Vasyl Lomachenko, who defeated Jose Pedraza by decision to unify his WBA Lightweight Title with Pedraza’s WBO Title.
The opening round was fairly quiet, but Lomachenko seemed to steal the round with a couple of hard shots to the head and body before the bell. Pedraza answered back in the second, however, sneaking inside and landing a couple of uppercuts to the body of Lomachenko.
Lomachenko, despite Pedraza’s best efforts, started to get his footwork going in the third and fourth, managing to find the inside and landing combinations. Pedraza continued to keep things close as the fight reached the halfway mark, but Lomachenko always seemed to be one or two steps ahead in his punching.
Pedraza found the mark again in the eighth and ninth, and while Lomachenko wasn’t putting on his biggest clinic, he still seemed to have more in the tank, being the aggressor and cutting off the ring, as well as having the better quality punches.
Then in the 11th, Lomachenko showed off why he’s ranked the best pound-for-pound fighter, making Pedraza eat several flurries of punches with no answer before the defending WBO champion was forced to take a knee. Pedraza got up but went down again, and he likely may have been stopped if not for the bell. Lomachenko then cruised through the 12th for the win.
The judges scored the bout 119-107, 117-109, 117-109.
