Anthony Joshua Responds To A Potential Fight With Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson has received several requests by individuals to fight him since announcing his return to the ring for charity. Tito Ortiz, Danny Williams, and Wanderlei Silva are just a few examples.
What about one of the current heavyweight champions of the world?
Anthony Joshua, the IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion, has been asked about fighting Tyson (50-6, 2NC) more times than he can count. Speaking with The Sun, Joshua (23-1) quickly put down a fight between him and the former lineal champion. He respects Tyson too much to even consider something like that.
“With all due respect I wouldn’t,” Joshua said regarding a fight. “Even if I fought Iron Mike and beat him, I think I’d be the only one cheering. People would boo. He is a legend. He is the greatest boxer of the modern era.
“There are only two recognized champions the world knows of, Ali and Mike Tyson — the most recognized faces in the world when it comes to boxing.”
Over the years, Tyson has received celebrity status due to his appearances in movies and TV shows. His recent videos have shown that he is in shape and serious about fighting. Tyson has received offers ranging from $1 million to $20 million for a few rounds and more.
Joshua has his eyes on another Tyson, Fury that is. The WBC and lineal Heavyweight Champion in Fury may end up facing Joshua in the next few months if things go according to plan. While there are a few words that have been said between the two, Joshua doesn’t have any ill feelings towards his fellow countryman. In fact, it is just business.
“I don’t want to be in that position where I am talking down Tyson Fury,” Joshua went on to say. “He is a great person and he has done great things in boxing but until the day we fight that is where it ends and I don’t have anything else to say about him.
“I really want the belt and that is where I stand with Tyson Fury.”
Fury (30-0-1) has also received an offer to fight Tyson. While he was ecstatic about the offer, he is focused on becoming an undisputed heavyweight champion.
