Watch: Anthony Joshua’s Emotional Encounter With Oleksandr Usyk After Fight

Oleksandr Usyk overcame Anthony Joshua for the second time on Saturday night. The Ukrainian fighter got the better of the Watford-native by a split decision and defended his unified heavyweight world titles.

However, the story that grabbed the headlines was not the fight, but what happened after the final bell was rung.

The emotion of the occasion seemed to be too much for Joshua as he threw two of Usyk’s titles out of the ring.

After that, he grabbed a mike and delivered a passionate speech about how hard he has worked to be in this position. In the post-match press conference, he broke down in tears.

Another moment that seems to not be getting the same attention was the exchange Joshua and Usyk had after the fight was over.

Initially, Joshua acted randomly and said “well done” while shaking Usyk’s hands as the pair embraced each other.

“You are a very strong guy. Listen, you’re very strong.” Usyk replied.

Joshua came back:

“I don’t care about being strong, I have to have skills. Being strong doesn’t win boxing, skills win boxing. You’re not strong, how did you beat me? How? Because of skill. I had character and determination.”

A lot has been said about Joshua’s statement in the ring to Usyk. However, the 32-year-old cleared everything on Twitter.

“I wish Usyk continued success in your quest for greatness. You are a class act champ.” Joshua tweeted.

“Yesterday I had to mentally take myself into a dark place to compete for the championship belts! I had two fights, one with Usyk and one with my emotions, and both got the better of me.”
