Anthony Joshua’s Victory Over Jermaine Franklin Fails To Impress – ‘Terrible, Gun Shy’

Jermaine Franklin lost to Anthony Joshua on points in a heated battle where emotions ran high.

Despite Joshua’s dominance over his opponent, the fight did not end as quickly or decisively as anticipated, leaving many boxing aficionados disappointed with the Brit.

Expectations had been running high prior to the bout. Following consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua had an opportunity to start things afresh.

His new trainer, Derrick James, spoke highly of the boxer, praising his ‘athleticism,’ while the chance to headline at the O2 for the first time in 7 years meant it was a new hunting ground compared to his usual surroundings.

On top of that, Joshua was headlining a main event on DAZN, a platform that has failed to convince the boxing community.

While he did emerge victorious, Joshua lacked many things that he had become so synonymous for. His explosive combinations and aggressiveness were more measured and tempered.

This was understandable given the weight of expectation to win, with Joshua even claiming that he would ‘retire’ if he came second best.

But the gun-shy Brit faces many question marks over whether he can rediscover the form that made him the former unified heavyweight champion. And so far, the answer appears to be negative.
