Anthony Smith Breaks Silence Following Arrest Last Month
Former UFC fighter Anthony Smith, 38, has broken his silence 1 month following his arrest on felony domestic violence charges.
The former UFC light heavyweight, now an analyst with the company, allegedly threatened to kill his wife if she did not leave a bar in Gretna, Nebraska, with him. Investigators said Smith tried multiple times to hit her with a vehicle after she escaped during the drive. She avoided the car and was not harmed.
Smith turned himself in after a warrant was issued. He was granted a $500,000 bond by a judge, on the condition he have no contact with his wife, Mikhala Renee Newman, pending trial. However Newman challenged the police report saying she loves Anthony while stating the following.
“He is a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband who loves us endlessly. Anyone that knows him can attest to that. I am safe and always was safe. He would never hurt me. Ever. I called for help to protect him from himself.”
Smith posted a family photo on Sunday along with the following statement.
“Happy to be home with my household full of ‘whys’. I’ll be able to tell my story someday soon. Until then … you guys just keep making it up as you go. Character is revealed in chaos.”
Smith faces felony charges including attempted first-degree domestic assault and first-degree false imprisonment and is due back in court on September 21.
