Anthony Smith Secures Fourth Spot In UFC Divisional Rankings

Anthony Smith is coming for the title if he continues to replicate the same performance he just showed against Ryan Spann last weekend.

The light-heavyweight star has been promoted to the fourth spot from No. 6 in the UFC division rankings.

The Lionheart bagged his third win in a row when he submitted Spann at UFC Vegas 37. Smith has gone past Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes in the division rankings to have only Aleksandar Rakic, Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira remaining in his way to the top spot.

Rakic beat the Lionheart in August 2020 via unanimous decision. With a win over Spann, Smith may have a solid case for the rematch now. However, Spann remains an unranked contender on the UFC roster.

His trash talks came to bite him back after Smith defeated him in the very first round.

Usually, fighters end the fight on a good note, shake hands, hug it out and bury the hatchets inside the cage. But Smith made sure he reminded Spann of the words he had been using for him.

In the post-match interview, the Lionheart claimed that he was having none of the disrespect that Spann has given him in the build-up to the fight.

“Maybe this is going to sound arrogant or pretentious but I have earned the respect from my peers,” Smith told media. “I put a lot of work into this game. I’ve sacrificed my entire adult life to be here. To be in the position I’m sitting in right now. That’s time with my kids. That’s friendships. That’s life opportunities.

“I’ve put a lifetime of work into this, and most of my peers respect me. That’s all I ask,” he added.
