Anthony Smith’s Wife Breaks Silence Surrounding Husband’s Arrest
Anthony Smith’s wife, the alleged victim tied to his arrest earlier this week, has made her first comment on the situation, and according to her, things did not transpire as initially reported.
On Monday, the retired UFC light heavyweight was picked up by police in Nebraska on charges of first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, and first-degree false imprisonment. His wife, Mikhala Renee Newman, was the one who called the police, but now states that she only did so to protect him from hurting himself, and she was never in danger. “They made a mental health struggle into something it wasn’t,” Newman said as part of her post to social media on Saturday.
“I love Anthony with every ounce of my being! He is a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband who loves us endlessly. Anyone that knows him can attest to that.

Smith is currently out of jail on a $500,000 bond under the condition that he does not contact his wife. The former fighter and UFC analyst is now expected to appear in front of a judge on August 17th.
Smith retired from the UFC in 2025 after a long career that started with the organization in 2013. Additionally, he has filled roles on the UFC broadcast team as a desk analyst and commentator.
Following his UFC retirement last year, Smith took a fight with Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA this past April, where he submitted Chase Sherman with a rear naked choke in the opening round.
