Anthony Wint Finds First-Round Success In UFC Debut
On Saturday night in Sacramento, former New York Jets linebacker Anthony Wint made his UFC debut and impressed with a first-round submission of Terrance Chatman.
The 30-year-old heavyweight earned his contract to the leading MMA promotion through his knockout victory over Matt Adams earlier this month and was still able to turn around on short notice and find success for a second time in eleven days later.
Getting the main card started for UFC Fight Night: Hernandez vs. Rodrigues, Wint meant business when he started towards Chatman. After a brief period of striking, and a struggle with the size of his opponent when trying to secure the takedown, Wint dragged Chatman to the ground and began to establish a strong top position.
From the top, the former Fury FC champion went to work with powerful punches, but ultimately used them as a distraction to switch pressure to the opposite side of his opponent, where he could constrict Chatman with an arm triangle choke. With only a short time left in the round, it appeared Chatman could potentially survive until the bell, but the pressure caused him to go unconscious, resulting in a submission victory in the opening frame for Wint.

Through his debut victory, Wint added a seventh win to his undefeated professional record and established himself as a possible contender in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
“I’m not going to be the same version of Anthony Wint the next time I get in this cage. Whoever signs the contract next, you’re going to be in trouble” Wint expressed during his in-octagon post-fight interview.
