Are We Close To Seeing Jones Vs. Ngannou?

It is no secret that Jon Jones has been looking into joining the heavyweight division of the UFC. The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion has seemingly done it all when it comes to his current domain. The only concern is who he would be facing in his heavyweight debut.

It appears an opponent has been found in Francis Ngannou.

Jones’ interest in this potential new venture increased when Ovince Saint Preux joined the heavyweight division just last week. Critiquing his style, Jones (26-1, 1NC) caught the attention of Ngannou (15-3), who just won his bout against Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249 on May 9. Ngannou asked how real the division seemed, with Jones replying:

“Seemed so real Francis, all that power means nothing when your hay makers are too slow. I’m not most my friend”

Jones then asked who was the “quicker and more technical striker” when it came to light heavyweight challenger Thiago Santos and Ngannou. He stated he wants a “big money” fight” and that he has nothing left to prove in the light heavyweight division. Ngannou appeared to agree, stating:

“If you think you can handle my technique level that’s fine, but I agree with you that you don’t have anything to prove in LHW division and that this should be for bags”

Jones hasn’t fought since beating Dominick Reyes via unanimous decision at UFC 247 in February. It was a controversial affair that saw Jones get tested for the second fight in a row.

Ngannou is on a four-fight win streak and has expressed a desire to fight for the UFC Heavyweight Title again. Currently waiting on a healing Stipe Miocic and a soon-to-be-retired Daniel Cormier, Ngannou has called for an interim title to be made. If his request is not heard, Ngannou would consider a huge fight with Jones.

Recently, Ngannou posted another tweet asking what’s Jones’ status regarding the challenge. Jones has since responded by stating:

“First you can save the rest of your tongue pictures for your other homies and yes I’m right here, just waking up from watching that Derek Lewis fight again. You ain’t scaring nobody, I saw your heart. You’re a big old mouse, I’ll expose you”

As of now, BetOnline.ag has Ngannou as a -150 favorite over Jones. This is according to MMA Fighting.
