Are We Close To Seeing The Return Of Erislandy Lara?
A top light-middleweight star is reportedly set to return to action. According to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, Erislandy Lara will be competing in the main event of a PBC on FOX event on August 29.
Lara (26-3-2) made his professional debut in 2008. The WBA Light-Middleweight Champion’s biggest test was in 2014 when he lost to Canelo Alvarez via split decision. The 37-year-old rebounded by beating Ishe Smith and Delvin Rodriguez, the latter for the IBO Light-Middleweight Title. Lara was on a six-fight win streak following the Canelo bout before losing to IBF Light-Middleweight Champion Jarrett Hurd in 2018, losing his titles
After the Hurd bout, Lara fought Brian Castano to a split decision draw in March 2019. His last bout was a TKO win over Canelo’s brother Ramon for the WBA Light-Middleweight Title. “The American Dream”, a 2005 World Championships gold medalist, has 15 wins via knockout.
An opponent has not been announced yet for Lara. Plans were in place for Lara to fight Michel Soro after the Alvarez bout, but it has not been revisited since those initial talks. There is a chance he faces Israil Madrimov down the line with a win. The 25-year-old is set to face off against Eric Walker on August 15.
Premier Boxing Champions is set to return to action this weekend with Thomas Dulorme Vs. Jamal James.
