Artem Lobov outlasts Paulie Malignaggi at BKFC 6
Many thought the biggest fight in the short history of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships would be a bitter war, it wasn’t the bloodbath as some expected. In fact, it was a tame affair between a boxer and an MMA Fighter. At BKFC 6 in Tampa, Florida, Artem Lobov defeated Paulie Malignaggi via unanimous decision, 48-47, 48-47, 48-47.
In a two-year rivalry, thanks in part to Conor McGregor, both showed hatred towards one another. Round one, however, saw them test the waters instead of going straight for the kill. Malignaggi (36-8 boxing, 0-1 BKFC) showed his boxing ability first with jabs to the body and quick feet. Lobov (13-5-1, 1NC MMA, 2-0 BKFC) swung but missed key shots. Lobov appeared to have the advantage, but Paulie started to get a little comfortable after.
Malignaggi started to hit some more body shots and used his jab effectively in round two. Several shots were landing while Lobov was looking to strike right away. Round three saw how the clash of styles would work, as Paulie would try and run around Lobov while he missed several shots. Lobov landed several punches to the body as was Paulie.
Round four saw Lobov actually connecting with his wild throws, making him feel more in his element. He backed Malignaggi into the ropes several times, hitting body shots along the way. Lobov with several swinging rights that Malignaggi tried to counter with a jab. From that point, it appeared all even.
Round five saw Lobov attack first before Paulie landed a left. Artem would later hit a hook that managed to scrape Paulie. Both shook hands and hugged after the fight. Malignaggi retired from bare-knuckle boxing after, allowing Lobov to have his moment to shine.
In the co-main event, Dakota Cochrane defeated MMA veteran Chris Leben. Before then, Johnny Bedford defeated Reginald Barnett Jr. to become the BKFC Lightweight Champion.
