Arum Denies Reports Of A Loma-Kambosos Fight, Will Loma Retire?
Bob Arum has dismissed suggestions of a fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr.
Speculation had emerged that a fight could take place in Australia by the end of the year. Kambosos had also confirmed something similar following his win over Maxi Hughes, as a stadium fight was being targeted.
“We’ll fight Lomachenko next. That’s the fight. That’s a big fight that you really get up for,” Kambosos
Although that may have been the case, Arum has denied anything of the sort. Instead, the promoter indicated Loma’s intention to take the rest of the year off before deciding his next move.
“I met with Egis before he went off to Poland for the Usyk fight. We tried to make the fight between Shakur and Loma. And Egis told us that Loma has decided that he’s not fighting again this year. So, the fact that they’re talking about a fight with Loma and Kambosos is nonsense. Egis would not mislead us, and he told us that Loma wants to take the rest of the year off,” Arum said
The decision to take the year off comes after Loma’s controversial unanimous-decision loss to Devin Haney.
The defeat prevented his chance of becoming undisputed even if many boxing experts felt he had beaten the American.
The loss was also Loma’s second in a major fight, as he equally fell short against Teofimo Lopez. And at the age of 35, the three-division champion may not have too many fights left.
After all, with a potential fight against Shakur Stevenson on hand for the vacant WBC belt, Lomachenko’s hesitancy to fight this year has raised suggestions that he could retire.
And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
