Arum: GGG Should Face Ramirez, Not Follow Canelo to DAZN
If one were to ask Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, he’ll say that Gennady Golovkin beat Canelo Alvarez both times the two faced off and that GGG has proven himself against Canelo.
That’s why Arum feels that Golovkin should abandon any possible plans of signing with DAZN and chasing after a trilogy bout with Canelo. While a third bout between the pairing is hoped by many, it won’t happen for a while, as Alvarez will be stepping up to super middleweight next month to challenge WBA (Regular) champion Rocky Fielding on Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden.
Arum feels that GGG should look into doing something similar — move up to 168 pounds for a bout with unbeaten WBO Super Middleweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez.
Ramirez most recently defended his title against Roamer Angulo back in June, and he is set to defend the title again on Dec. 14 in a rematch with Jesse Hart.
“I think Canelo is a good fighter but I think Golovkin beat Canelo. It would be a better fight if Zurdo faces Golovkin,” Arum said. “Zurdo has a very difficult fight, the rematch against Jessie Hart on December 14. But if he wins that fight, I want to see him against Golovkin.”
