Arum: Hearn Waiting On Loma-Campbell Announcement
Vasyl Lomachenko and Luke Campbell are a go for a lightweight title fight on August 31st in London, but Lomachenko’s promoter, Bob Arum, is waiting on Campbell’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, to make a move and announce the fight.
“It’s done,” Arum told IFL TV for an interview posted Thursday to its YouTube page. “It’s a done deal. Eddie Hearn asked if we allowed him, who’ll be the promoter in the UK, to make the official announcement. Something about selling tickets and not wanting to interfere with the sale of tickets for the Dillian Whyte fight, which apparently isn’t going too well.”
Whyte is set to fight in two weeks at the O2 against Oscar Rivas, and Hearn may wait to announce the Loma-Campbell fight until after the July 20th fight.
“Well, you know, whenever he makes [the announcement],” Arum said. “As far as we’re concerned, it’s a signed deal. We’re expecting that fight on August 31st, and I think it’s gonna be at the O2 Arena. But that’s up to Eddie. And we’re all set. ESPN is sending over a whole announcing team to England, to cover the fight. So, as far as I’m concerned, with or without an announcement, it’s a go.”
The two sides completed a deal last week to avoid a purse bid set by the WBC, which will have their vacant lightweight title on the line along with Lomachenko’s WBA and WBO titles at 135 pounds.
