Arum Optimistic On Making Davis vs. Lomachenko

Bob Arum is optimistic he can make Gervonta Davis vs. Vasily Lomachenko.

Tank first teased a fight after Loma defeated George Kambosos Jr. to win the vacant IBF Lightweight Title. Davis reacted to the win, saying Loma was ‘next.’ This was provided he beat Frank Martin. Davis stopped Martin in round eight to retain his WBA Lightweight Title. At the post-fight presser, Shakur Stevenson and Loma were the names mentioned for the next fight.

Since then, Calvin Ford has expressed his desire for the fight. Davis’ other trainer, Kenny Ellis, has also said he is studying Loma with rumors over a possible fight. The fight would generate a big audience in a massive unification. Arum said talks had already begun, and he remained confident a deal would be signed.

“I’m optimistic that will happen, but until it’s signed, you don’t know. The networks are cooperative. You can’t blame the networks if a fight isn’t made. It’s people involved with the fighters, who are not being realistic, but I don’t think that will be the case. I think the negotiations will go very well between the sides. This is the time that it can be made, and both are coming off big victories. So, it’s all good. At a particular other time would the fight have meant more? I don’t know. Maybe, but you can’t look back at that. We’re at this time in the careers of both guys, and it’s a very interesting, intriguing fight. Both fighters want the fight,” Arum said

Arum then said Shakur Stevenson could face the winner.

“Shakur is a tremendous fighter. He’s got a tough fight [against Artem Harutyunyan] coming up on July 6th, but certainly if the Tank-Lomachenko fight is made, Shakur will take another fight about that time and be available to fight the winner. Shakur is a tremendous talent, and whoever wins the Lomachenko-Tank fight, I’m sure, would like to fight Shakur after that,” Arum said
