Arum: Pacquaio-Loma Can Happen In 2018
With only a few days remaining until Vasyl Lomachenko looks to win his third world title against WBA lightweight belt-holder Jorge Linares at Madison Square Garden in New York, Bob Arum claims Manny Pacquiao may be next.
Even though there is a well-publicized disconnect between Arum and Pacquiao, Arum claimed this week that a fight with “Hi-Tech” can happen.
“Yes [it could happen], because the one thing at this stage that everybody has difficulty with is advising Manny as to who to fight next,” Arum said in regards to Pacquiao, who is training for Lucas Matthysse in July.
“He doesn’t take advice kindly and maybe at his age and because of his position in politics. He’s used to making the decisions first.”
The fight is still very much an idea, as both men still have fights in front of them, but Arum noted that Pacquiao wants it.
“(Pacquiao) has been talking to me for awhile now about fighting Lomachenko and he indeed wanted to fight Lomachenko rather than Lucas Matthysse before that fight was made – but Lomachneko’s father didn’t want to do that fight because he wanted to first test Lomachenko at 135. He’s very methodical, Anatoly,” said Arum of Lomachenko’s dad.
Pacquiao’s longtime adviser Michael Koncz, has noted in recent interviews that Lomachenko is who they want next.
