Arum: Pulev Pulls AJ From Unification Equation
The IBF’s mandatory challenger for world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, Kubrat Pulev is the man Bob Arum believes will end Joshua’s reign at the top of the heavyweight division.
“I’m going to make a big prediction here,” Arum said of a potential 2020 fight between Joshua and Pulev.
“At that particular time there will be no more Joshua. Everybody is overlooking that Bulgarian who has been training his ass off in my gym. Let me tell you he’s not coming in fat like Andy Ruiz. He’s going to pressure Joshua and he can knock Joshua out.”
Pulev and former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk are the two mandatory fighters ahead of Joshua, while Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will battle in February for Wilder’s WBC title, the only world title not held by Joshua.
And while Arum drags Joshua as a potential flop, the Top Rank founder firmly believes this is the best the heavyweight division has been since Mike Tyson due to the star power of fighters such as Joshua, Wilder, and Fury.
“Lennox Lewis was a terrific fighter, the Klitschkos were good fighters,” Arum said of the post-Tyson era. “But they didn’t resonate, particularly.”
