Arum Pushes For A Taylor Vs. Catterall Trilogy

Bob Arum wants a third fight between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall following their last fight.

Catterall won the rematch in a unanimous decision. The scorecards read as follows: 116-113, 117-111, and 117-111. While most boxing fans had Catterall winning, Arum was unhappy with the result. He felt the cards were too wide and had Taylor winning. It was a throwback to their first fight where Catterall had outboxed Taylor for most of it.

However, the scorecards had Taylor winning by a split decision. The result of the first fight could have influenced the Catterall scorecards. After the fight, Catterall indicated his desire to move on and target a world title shot. So far, that has not happened. However, he will box former WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Regis Prograis in August. While that may be the case, Arum wants them to run things back.

“Let me clarify. I was in Leeds for that fight. I watched that fight carefully. There were three possible ways to score the fight: 7-5 Catterall [in rounds], 7-5 Taylor, 6-6 even. I was really teed off because Taylor is my fighter, we promote him. But it wasn’t necessarily because I thought he clearly won the fight. I just thought it was a disservice to him that the scorecards were so wide. I was sitting next to Eddie Hearn, whose fighter was Catterall, and he was scoring the fight and we had it a very, very close fight,” Arum said
