In an affair that would see both competitors gas out early, Idalys Ortiz would net three penalties, giving Asahina not only the world gold, but her third consecutive victory over the judoka in a series started in 2012, when Asahina was just 16 years old.

The final would see Asahina be cautious against Ortiz, setting her up to be taken for two quick penalties, and in golden score at just about six minutes into the showdown, Ortiz would get her third penalty, handing the Japanese heavyweight the victory.
