Bio
Alistair Overeem is a former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, DREAM Heavyweight Champion, K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, and is one of only 2 fighters to hold world titles in both MMA and K-1 kickboxing at the same time.
Born in Hounslow, England in 1980, he and his brother began training at Chris Dolman’s MMA gym, and made his mixed debut at 19 years old, a submission win in 1999.
Overeem soon found himself in Japan fighting for Pride FC, where he had notable wins overVitor Belfort, Igor Vovchanchyn, and Sergei Kharitonov. After Pride collapsed, he spent some time fighting in DREAM and later joined Strikeforce to become their heavyweight champion. Here, he collected wins over Kazuyuki Fujita, Brett Rogers, and Fabricio Werdum.
In 2011, he signed with the UFC and defeated Brock Lesnar in his promotion debut at UFC 141 in 2011. Since then, he has picked up victories over Frank Mir, Stefan Struve, Junior Dos Santos, and Andrei Arlovski.
