Anderson “The Spider” Silva was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil on April 14th in 1975. He’s a well-rounded fighter with a background in multiple disciplines like; Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, and Capoeira. The southpaw has competed as a light heavyweight but is best known for his exploits as a middleweight.
In 2006 Silva won the UFC middleweight title and made a UFC record 10 consecutive title defenses. In 2013 Silva was seeking his 17th straight win and 11th title defense. At the time he was considered by most in the MMA community as the best fighter of our generation and possibly the best fighter of all-time. That is until Chris Weidman knocked Silva out at UFC 162. Since Silva was clowning around and got caught with a punch that ended the fight many still considered him the best. In the rematch Silva’s leg broke in a freak accident so even though he was on a 2 fight losing streak he was still looked at as one of the great ones.
In January of 2015 the opinion of Silva changed forever. At UFC 183 Silva fought Nick Diaz and won a 5 round unanimous decision but when Silva was found to have failed a drug test for performance enhancing drugs his win was changed to a No Contest and his legacy was tarnished. He hopes to continue fighting and looks to make a comeback in 2016.
