The older brother of Andre Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell made his pro boxing debut on Jan. 27, 2005. He went unbeaten in 12 straight bouts but was forced to take a hiatus due to undergoing chemotherapy for a battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He returned to the ring successfully on Oct. 11, 2008.
After a draw in their first bout, Dirrell defeated Sakio Bika to win the WBC Super Middleweight Championship. However, in his first title defense, Dirrell lost the title to Badou Jack. He will have another opportunity to earn the now-vacant title back when he takes on Callum Smith.
