A native of Uhrichsville, Ohio, Cody Garbrandt began boxing at 15, and started wrestling while in high school. While he enjoyed grappling, he focused on boxing and compiled a 32-1 record in the amateur leagues before turning to MMA.
“No Love” picked up an amateur record of 6-2 before turning pro, walking through many fighters in Pinnacle FC, Gladiators of the Cage, and NAAFS before being noticed by the UFC.
Garbrandt made his UFC debut in January 2015 with a TKO win over Marcus Brimage. After that, he took out Henry Briones and Augusto Mendez, before meeting Thomas Almeida in the main event of a UFC Fight Night in May 2016. Almeida had been previously undefeated in 21 fights, but on that night, Cody knocked out his Brazilian opponent halfway into the first round, cementing his place in the upper ranks of the division.
