Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Demetrius Andrade had quite the amateur career before joining the pros. Starting boxing at the age of 6 in 1994, Andrade went on to win the U.S. Amateur Boxing Championship in 2005 and National Golden Gloves in 2006 and 2007. He also won a gold medal at the 2007 World Championships.

Andrade made his professional boxing debut on Oct. 23, 2008, defeating Patrick Cape via second-round TKO. On Nov. 9, 2013, in his 20th pro bout, Andrade defeated Vanes Martirosyan to win the WBO super welterweight title. After just one defense (that took place in June 2014), however, Andrade was stripped of the title due to inactivity. Andrade returned to in-ring action in Oct. 2015.

On Mar. 11, 2017, Andrade defeated Jack Culcay to win the WBA super welterweight championship.
