Dominick Cruz was born in Tucson, Arizona in the United States on September 3rd, in 1985. As of November 2015 Cruz held a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also had a background in wrestling and boxing. He made his professional MMA debut in 2005 and has competed as a lightweight, featherweight and bantamweight in his career.
In 2007 Cruz was 9-0 when he fought Urijah Faber for the WEC featherweight championship. Cruz lost for the first time in his pro career when he was submitted by Faber in the 1st round. After the loss Cruz won 11 in a row capturing the WEC & UFC bantamweight championships along the way.
Multiple injuries have cost Cruz years of fighting and caused him to be stripped of his UFC title, but at UFC Fight Night 81 he is expected to return from his most recent injury that kept him out of action for 15 months. Cruz will have a chance to recapture his belt when he faces off against current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw.
