James DeGale was born in London, England on February 3rd, in 1986. He began boxing at 10 years old and compiled 79 wins as an amateur. The southpaw won the gold medal as a middleweight at the 2008 Olympics and turned pro the following year.
DeGale was 10-0 with 8 wins by knockout when he took on fellow British boxer George Groves and lost a 12 round majority decision. After the loss to Groves, DeGale won his next 11 fights and won the IBF super middleweight world title in May of 2015 making DeGale the first British boxer to win a gold medal in the Olympics and a world title in boxing. DeGale’s first title defense is scheduled for the end of November against former IBF super middleweight world champion Lucian Bute who is looking to reclaim the title he held for 5 years.
