Bio
Javier Fortuna was born in La Romana, in the Dominican Republic on July 7th in 1990. He began boxing at 11 years old and won multiple medals in amateur tournaments before turning pro in 2009. In 2012 Fortuna fought Patrick Hyland for the interim WBA featherweight world title and in his first fight scheduled for 12 rounds he went the distance to win a unanimous decision and the interim title. After failing to make weight in his next fight Fortuna was stripped of the title and moved up to the super featherweight division.
His super featherweight debut was the first time he left the ring without a win as the fight ended in a draw. After rattling off 5 straight wins following the draw, Fortuna was granted his first super featherweight title fight when he took on Bryan Vasquez for the vacant WBA super featherweight world title. Fortuna won a unanimous decision and was then promoted to full champion prior to his next bout.
