Jorge Luis Linares Palencia was born in Barinas, Venezuela on August 22nd in 1985. He compiled an amateur record of 89-5 and won the first of his 3 gold medals in Venezuela’s Junior National Championships at age 14. He made his professional boxing debut in 2002, and went 27-0 capturing the WBC featherweight and WBA super featherweight world titles in the process before losing for the first time in 2009. Five years later Linares won his 3rd world title in 3 different weight classes when he captured the vacant WBC lightweight world title with a 4th round knockout of Javier Prieto.
