Juan Francisco Estrada was born in Sonora, Mexico on April 14th in 1990. He made his professional boxing debut at the young age of 18 but wasn’t fazed by the competition going 18-0 with 15 knockouts before losing an 8 round decision in 2011. Estrada bounced back from the loss with 8 straight wins to earn his first world title shot.
Facing Roman Gonzalez with the WBA light flyweight world title on the line, Estrada was defeated for just the second time as Gonzalez won a 12 round unanimous decision. Estrada moved up to flyweight for his next bout, but even though he was in a new division he didn’t wait long for another world title shot as his first fight at flyweight was against Brian Viloria for the WBA & WBO flyweight world titles. Estrada defeated Viloria via split decision to become a world champion and in September of 2015 he made his 5th successful defense of his WBA & WBO flyweight world titles.
