Bio
Lee “The Barry Boy Assassin” Selby was born in Barry Wales, in the U.K. on February 14th in 1987. Selby made his professional debut as a lightweight in 2008. He bounced between lightweight, super lightweight, and super featherweight before settling in the featherweight division. As a featherweight Selby captured the British, Commonwealth, and European featherweight titles as well as the WBC International featherweight title.
In 2015, with a record of 20-1, Selby earned his first world title shot when he faced off against IBF featherweight world champion Evgeny Gradovich. A clash of heads that left a cut by Gradovich’s right eye caused the fight to be stopped and with Selby ahead on the judges’ score cards 80-72, and 79-73 twice, he was awarded the win and his first world title. Later that year Selby made his first world title defense on October 14th with a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Fernando Montiel.
