Roman Gonzalez was born in Managua, Nicaragua on June 17th in 1987. Nicknamed “El Chocolatito” he made his professional debut in 2005. In 2008 after going undefeated with a record of 20-0 with 18KO’s Gonzalez defeated Yutaka Niida for the WBA minimumweight title. After 3 successful title defenses Gonzalez moved up to light flyweight in 2010 and captured the interim WBA light flyweight title.
In 2011 Gonzalez was promoted to full champion and made 5 successful title defenses. In 2014 Gonzalez became a world champion in a 3rd different weight class when he won the WBC flyweight world title. Gonzalez made his second successful defense of the WBC flyweight title in 2015 to run his record to 43-0 with 37 knockouts. The 3rd world title in 3 different weight classes puts him on par with former Nicaraguan boxing great Alexis Arguello.
