Sara McMann was born in Maryland in 1980. She was a member of the wrestling team in high school and at Lock Haven University. McMann made history by becoming the first American woman to medal in wrestling at the Olympics, when she won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. McMann also has two Pan American Games gold medals and a silver medal and two bronze medals from three World Championships appearances.
McMann made her professional MMA debut in 2011 and won her first seven bouts in a row, including her UFC debut at UFC 159 in April 2013. McMann challenged Ronda Rousey for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship at UFC 170 in February 170, but she fell short.
McMann holds key victories over Alexis Davis, Jessica Eye, and Tonya Evinger.
