Thompson has been studying martial arts since he was a child and holds black belts in Jemp Karate, American kickboxing, and JuJutsu. He currently studies BJJ under Carlos Machado.
Thompson was a competitor in Chuck Norris’ “World Combat League,” where he rose to become the #1 ranked fighter in the league.
After four back-to-back wins in the minor leagues, Thompson joined the UFC, where he earned KO of the night in his debut at UFC 143 against Dan Stittgen. After that, Matt Brown handed him the first loss of his career at UFC 145, defeating him by decision.
“Wonderboy” rebounded at UFC 160, and has defeated Jake Ellenberger, Patrick Cote, Johny Hendricks, and Rory MacDonald en route to earning the top spot in the welterweight division.
Thompson has been undefeated through 37 amateur and 20 professional kickboxing matches, with 28 wins by knockout.
