Attar: ‘McGregor Serious About Boxing’

When Conor McGregor made his intentions known about going into the boxing world, the world laughed it off. Nobody was laughing when he actually stepped into the ring and fought Floyd Mayweather in 2017. While he lost in the tenth round via TKO, Conor’s star grew that night.

Now, Conor is looking to enter the ring again. Following his TKO-win in his return fight against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, Conor laid out a plan for 2020. Speaking with MMA Fighting, manager Audie Attar emphasized Conor’s desire to re-enter the boxing world.

“He’s serious about boxing,” McGregor’s Attar stated. “He said it. That’s something that I can tell you, if he says something he has interest in, it’s likely going to happen.”

With all of the legal issues Conor has been through, including two ongoing sexual assault cases, it was pretty quiet when it came to future matchups for Conor. Since making his return and winning, social media has been buzzing. The now-retired Floyd Mayweather has teased a rematch with Conor, while Top Rank’s Bob Arum has been discussed the idea of the Irishman facing Terence Crawford. Attar keeps an eye on the news and is always looking at potential opportunities.

“We definitely monitor everything,” Attar went on to say. “We monitor not only fan engagement and interest from the public, but then you look at who’s out there talking what. Because it could be where we have a few different options to weigh and decide on.

“At the end of the day, I saw Floyd, I saw Manny and now Bob Arum, who at one point said, ‘It’s not a smart idea to crossover.’ He’s a believer now as well.”

The pressure is on for McGregor, who must win fights in order to get title opportunities. With boxing on his mind as well, there is the idea that too much is going on for him. Seeing how he has a new mindset and better people around him, he appear ready for any challenge.

“Yes it’s going to be busy, but we welcome that,” stated Attar. “We’re super excited for it. I think we’re all on the same page when it comes to ambition and goals, and so that’s really fun to see when your entire team is in sync.

“I think we all welcome that type of work load. We don’t look at it as pressure. We look at it as opportunity.”
