Ayala Hopes To Bounce Back Against Mir
2018 has been the year of the heavyweights in Bellator MMA, and on December 14th, Javy Ayala and Frank Mir look to aim themselves into title contention at Bellator 212.
Mir, who entered into this year’s Heavyweight Grand Prix, returns to the Bellator cage to face off against Ayala, who is looking to end a three fight skid that started against former UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson. Ayala returns to the Bellator cage looking to not only avoid a third loss, but impress against the former UFC heavyweight champion.
“He’s a tough guy, I’ve been a fan of him since he started my MMA career,” Ayala told FIGHT SPORTS prior to fight week. “I’m very happy to have the opportunity to go in there and throw some punches of him.”
When it comes to what changes he needs to make heading into Bellator 212, Ayala knew that defense would be the key.
“I’ve been working a lot on my takedown defense,” Ayala said over the phone. “We’ve just been working on my weaknesses to prepare myself for this fight.”
Ayala, who marked his fifth year inside the Bellator cage in 2018, knows the pressure is on, not only because of his past two losses, but fighting for the troops as part of Bellator’s partnership with the USO. “Obviously a lot of pressure, but I don’t let it get to me… I’m happy to have this opportunity to fight in-front of all the troops.”
Scott is taking Bellator far beyond what it used to be, and I’m excited to see where it’s going next.
When asked if he and Mir will go the distance, Ayala predicted a “quick good fight” inside the Bellator cage. “Hopefully it’ll end in the first round, but I’m prepared to go all three rounds and put on a show for the troops.”
