Badou Jack Slams Canelo For His Weight Stipulations – ‘They Wanted To Drain The Old Man’

Canelo Alvarez has been singled out by Badou Jack after the latter revealed that talks over a fight between the pair are now over.

According to reports, Jack was being lined up as an opponent for Canelo in the event that a rematch with Dmitry Bivol did not go ahead.

There would have been a lot on the line, as Jack is the holder of the WBC cruiserweight title.

Victory for the Mexican would have made him a five-division champion, while Jack had an opportunity to roll back the years at the age of 39.

However, given that the cruiserweight limit is 201 lbs, getting both fighters to agree on a weight would have been tough, to say the least.

Canelo began his career at welterweight, with his heaviest being at light heavyweight. Meanwhile, getting Jack to drop down at 39 was always going to be a step too far.

And now the cruiserweight champion has had his say on the matter.

“I won’t be fighting Canelo next. They said the weight difference is too much. They wanted to drain the old man and fight me twenty pounds under the cruiserweight limit for the title – plus a rehydration clause,” Canelo

Now that Jack is out of the picture, the only two viable options on the table for Canelo are Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez.

The former is a big name, but he has been out of the ring for two years. As such, without a tune-up fight, the Mexican would be a heavy favorite.

Meanwhile, Canelo has been accused of ducking the ‘Mexican Monster.’ And yet, Jack has made it clear that Benavidez is the only name Canelo should be pursuing.

“Canelo, let’s give the fans what they want to see and fight David Benavidez,” Jack
