Barber Tore ACL In Loss
Not only did Maycee Barber suffer her first career loss at UFC 246, but the biggest injury as well.
Barber tore her left ACL in the opening moments of her unanimous decision loss to Roxanne Modafferi in the final fight of the UFC 246 prelims.
”We think she injured it in the first 10 seconds,” Barber’s father, Bucky told ESPN. “She stepped on Roxanne’s foot as she backed up and felt a pop. You can see the knee give out on the side.
“She went back and started fighting and trying to do things and I noticed she was flat in a way I’ve never seen before.”
In a post on Instagram, Barber confirmed the injury while adding “try fighting 14:50 of the fight with a torn ACL!”
Barber was seen limping to her corner at the end of round two, when a doctor came to check the stability of Barber’s knee, telling Barber she likely had a “partial” tear in her ACL but allowing the fighter to continue.
Barber will be out between 9-12 months following the surgery, and will more than likely return in early 2021, still looking to be the youngest champion in UFC history.
