Barboza-Felder Targeted for UFC 242

A rematch between Edson Barboza and Paul Felder is reportedly in the works for UFC 242.

The pair originally met at a UFC on Fox card in July 2015, with Barboza taking a unanimous decision in a bout named Fight of the Night.

Since that fight, Barboza has unsuccessfully attempted to break into the upper echelon of UFC lightweight contenders, going 4-4 since the first fight. After a loss to Tony Ferguson in December 2015, Barboza won three straight before losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Kevin Lee. Barboza rebounded with a win over Dan Hooker at UFC Milwaukee in December, but he was quickly stopped by Justin Gaethje at UFC Philadelphia in March.

The loss to Barboza was the first of Felder’s career, and after losing to Ross Pearson at UFC 191, Felder has won six of his last eight, including four of his last five. Felder defeated Charles Oliveira at UFC 218 before a split-decision loss to Mike Perry at UFC 226. He scored a decision over James Vick at UFC Phoenix in February despite suffering a collapsed lung during the bout.

UFC 242 takes place on Sept. 7 at The Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The main event will see Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier unify the UFC Lightweight Championship.
