Barnett Hopes For MMA Return In 2019

Former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett is pretty busy with his work for New Japan Pro Wrestling and his return to team based grappling for Quintet, but eyes a return to MMA in the next few months.

While speaking at Quintet’s media day for their event on October 5th, Barnett admitted that a return to MMA is coming in 2019, but following his UFC release after being cleared of a USADA suspension, Barnett is going to be very selective.

“It’s got to excite me,” said Barnett, who will be a part of legendary fighter Kazushi Sakuraba’s squad in the four-team Quintet event.

“It has to be the right name, the right time, the right setting, it has to fit in with the rest of my schedule. I’m not going to lock down to one promoter. I still want to fight, you’ll see me fight some time next year, it’s just a matter of when and where.”
