Barros Hopes Finish Leads To Heavyweight Title Shot
At Bellator 230, Domingos Barros looks to stay undefeated standing across from Kirill Sidelnikov as the two square off on the main card of the Viacom owned organization’s debut in Milan, Italy.
“I first got into mixed martial arts as a bit of a joke!” said Barros ahead of his return to the Bellator cage. “While I was working in private security, I was invited to go along to a local gym and begin training so I thought I’d give it a try without knowing much about the sport. However, as soon as I went along to my first few sessions, I fell in love with MMA and haven’t looked back since.”
After making his bones in the regional ranks, Barros was given his chance to prove himself against kickboxer Hesdy Gerges in both fighter’s Bellator debut last December, as the Cape Verdian fighter made an impact both on the Bellator roster, but on Gerges face in a first-round stoppage.
“My plan was always to take that fight to the ground because we knew Gerges was quite dangerous standing up,” explained Barros. “It meant a lot for me to pick up a victory in that contest and shows that I am on the right track. I managed to overcome a very experienced athlete and a great fighter.”
“Sidelnikov is a good opponent and has decent striking skills,” commented Barros of his October 12th opponent. “I think it will be a great fight and it will play out in its own way. Whether it be standing or on the floor, I am prepared to finish this fight.”
