Belfort vs. Machida in Works for UFC 224
Two Brazilian MMA legends and former UFC light heavyweight champions look likely to collide in Rio de Janiero on May 12.
As reported by MMA Fighting, a middleweight bout featuring Vitor Belfort and Lyoto Machida is in the works for UFC 224, which takes place at the Jeunesse Arena.
Belfort last competed back in June at UFC 212, which also took place at the Jeunesse Arena, where he defeated Nate Marquardt via unanimous decision. Belfort was scheduled to face Uriah Hall at a UFC Fight Night event last month, but the bout was cut one day prior to the event due to Hall fainting and suffering a seizure following a bad weight cut. This bout is the last on Belfort’s current UFC deal, and there is speculation that this could be his final MMA bout.
Machida, meanwhile, defeated Eryk Anders via unanimous decision earlier this month at UFC Belem. This snapped a three-fight losing skid for Machida, who called out former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping afterward. Machida later added he would not really be opposed to a fight with Belfort.
