Bellator 193: Larkin Gets 1st Bellator Win
Lorenz Larkin scored a decision victory over Fernando Gonzalez in the main event of Bellator 193, which took place on Jan. 26 from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.
The opening round featured a lot of circling, with neither fighter landing anything big. Larkin appeared to cut off the cage and consistently switching up his stance. Gonzalez did score with a combination hook to the body and leg check, and during the last minute, Gonzalez started to push forward and attempt to force Larkin back with combinations.
Round two saw Larkin try to use his footwork to get his back away from the cage, while Gonzalez looked to apply pressure and force him back. The two traded hard kicks to the body. Larkin seemed to be in control of the action’s pace, by the time round three got underway, Larkin had his speed fully intact and coordination clear. A lot of what Gonzalez threw wasn’t landing.
Gonzalez tried to get in on the inside of Larkin, and it does appear to throw off Larkin’s attempted offense a bit. A heavy hand from Gonzalez lands on Larkin’s head, and while it connected, it did not rock Larkin enough. In the closing seconds of the round, a flurry from Larkin rocked Gonzalez, forcing his back against the cage as Larkin fired away shots until the closing bell.
This is the first Bellator win for Larkin, who had gone 0-2 in the promotion — including a failed welterweight title shot in his Bellator debut — since jumping from the UFC.
