Bellator 222: Fitch On-Hold For Main Event

If something happens to Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald or his opponent, Neiman Gracie, Jon Fitch is at the ready to main event Bellator 222.

Fitch, who went to a split decision draw with MacDonald earlier this year, will weigh in on Friday along with the other competitors at Bellator 222, set for Friday June 14th inside Madison Square Garden, and is available to step into the semi-final fight in the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix.

MacDonald advanced to the semi-finals ahead of Fitch due to the rules of the $1 million dollar single elimination tournament, that requires the current champion to move on in the event of a draw.

At one point it seemed MacDonald may not be cleared to compete following the hard fought war between the two, especially with comments from MacDonald following the fight openly saying he may have lost the will to fight.

Those concerns were short-lived, but with the New York State Athletic Commission notorious for weirder fight cancellations, or a potential missed weight from either fighter, Fitch may find a second chance to make history and win the Welterweight Grand Prix.
