Bellator 229: Larkin Defeats Koreshkov in Welterweight War

Lorenz Larkin came away with a narrow, split decision victory in the main event of Bellator 229 on October 4 at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, CA.

The bout saw plenty of back-and-forths, with each man rocking their opponent at one point or another.

Koreshkov connected on a spinning back kick in the opening frame that rocked and knocked Larkin down. Larkin, however, got back to his feet and connected with a solid left hand.

It was Larkin’s turn in the second, where he connected with a front kick and knee late in the round to knock the former welterweight champion down. As Koreshkov attempted to defend and get up, he was knocked down again by another big knee from Larkin, and even when he put up guard, he had to eat several hard elbows from Larkin before the end of the round.

The third round was split, as Koreshkov did plenty of wrestling and seemed in control, but Larkin was the one throwing strikes.

One judge scored the bout 29-28 for Koreshkov, while the other two scored it 29-28 for Larkin.
