Bellator 235: Replacement Headliner Misech KO’s Perez
The night started off well for Bellator’s now annual Tribute to the Troops event in Honolulu, Hawaii. That is until the main event was canceled at the last minute. Following that, one fighter stepped up and ended the night with a bang. Inside the Blaisdell Arena and promoted by the USO, new main eventer Toby Misech knocked out Erik Perez in the first round.
Josh Barnett was originally supposed to face Ronny Markes in the main event, but he had to back out after suffering from a strange illness. This was as the event was going. Bellator President Scott Coker called the situation “severe”, and Barnett even posted an update on Twitter.

The card ended up continuing with the co-main event now the headliner. Misech (11-7), who missed weight for the bout, faced an opponent in Perez (19-7) on a five-fight win streak. The idea of main eventing lit a spark under Misech, who came out hot right out of the gate.
It took 54 seconds for Misech to take advantage of this new situation. He landed a mean left hook that immediately stunned Perez to the floor. If that wasn’t enough, he landed a huge left on his downed opponent, forcing referee Mike Beltran to stop the fight.
Toby "2 Quick" Misech (12-7) spoils Érik Pérez's Bellator debut, sparking the UFC vet and his five-fight tear with thunderous lefts in 54 seconds! All eight of the Hawaiian's finishes are knockouts. Alas, missing weight by over 5 pounds puts a damper on the win. #BellatorUSO pic.twitter.com/WPkh3fR982

Misech is now 3-3 in his last six and is back in the win column following a loss against Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 215.
In the co-main event, Alejandra Lara defeated Veta Arteaga via unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26, 30-26. In what may very well have been a contender bout, Lara (9-3) bloodied the forehead of Arteaga (5-4) with hard elbows.
Lara utilized body kicks that helped give her an edge. It helped her set up rapid-fire shots to the face of Arteaga, as well as a left kick that brought her down to the mat at one point. Lara is now on a two-fight win streak following a two-fight skid that started with a submission loss to Flyweight Champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane back in 2018. Arteaga is now on a two-fight losing streak, the first of those losses via TKO to Macfarlane back in April.
