Johnny Eblen (13-0 MMA, 9-0 BMMA), the middleweight champion, and Fabian Edwards (12-2 MMA, 8-2 BMMA) made weight ahead of their Bellator 299 fight on September 23rd, 2023.
Eblen will make his way overseas to Dublin to defend his belt against Edwards in a highly-anticipated bout. After having turned professional in 2017, Eblen joined Bellator two years later. Since then, he has remained undefeated as his record stands at 9-0. He won the middleweight title with a victory over Gegard Mousasi in 2022 and went on to have a successful defense against Anatoly Tokov in his last fight.
Standing in his way is Edwards, the brother of the current UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Fabian also signed with Bellator in 2019, as his current record stands at 7-2. Despite having some defeats, Edwards has won his last three fights. The latest fight was a unanimous-decision win over Mousasi in the title eliminator. With that being said, both fighters weighed in at the limit. Eblen was slightly lighter at 184.6 pounds, while Edwards was at 185 pounds exactly.
In chief support, Pedro Carvalho (145.6) and Aaron Pico (145.2) both made the featherweight limit. However, in the other featherweight bout, Piotr Niedzielski missed weight, coming in at 147.8 pounds against his opponent Khasan Magomedsharipov (145.6 pounds.) Niedzielski will face a fine from his purse as a result.
