Bellator Announces Featherweight Grand Prix

In the midst of Bellator’s welterweight grand prix, Bellator announced a third grand prix will begin in October at featherweight.

One of Bellator’s deepest divisions will get the spotlight, but it’s champion Patricio Freire may not compete in the tournament due to his moving up to lightweight to face the division’s champion, Michael Chandler at Bellator 221.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Bellator President Scott Coker announced 16 man tournament is set for October, with the entire first round taking place on a single card exclusively on DAZN, with the tournament expected to end within a calendar year.

This will be the third $1 million grand prix tournament in the past year, with Ryan Bader winning the heavyweight grand prix at the start of 2019, and the welterweight grand prix heading into the semi-finals after welterweight champion Rory MacDonald defends his title against Jon Fitch at Bellator 220 on April 27th.
